3 Essential Oils to Improve Your Workout

Stick with me through this little story…I was the kid who hated PE. The kid that threw up after the mile run. I took piano so I could get out of gym one day a week. I was also the kid with the weird Chronic Illness that couldn’t exercise normally.

What about today?

Today, I workout regularly with my husband. I lift weights, I run miles, I do yoga, and we go hiking. The list goes on and on. However, none of this would be possible without dōTERRA Essential Oils. They support my body and allow me to have the best workout possible. If I can do this, so can you! It doesn’t matter what fitness level you’re at currently. There’s an oil to help take it to the next level.

How Essential Oils Work in the Body

dōTERRA essential oils can be used aromatically, topically, and internally (Yes! You read that correctly). Because each oil’s chemical makeup is unique, the usage for each oil will be different. Every bottle of oil lists the correct usage on its label.

Aromatic Use

All of dōTERRA’s oils are wonderful to diffuse. Vanderbilt Medical Center diffuses dōTERRA. When you diffuse, you have the power to uplift your mood, detox your body, boost your immunity, increase energy, and so much more. Perfect for working out, right?

Topical Use

Most of these oils can be applied topically, directly to the skin, without dilution. They absorb into the tissue for a quick therapeutic effect. This comes in hand with post-workout muscle irritation and more.

INTERNALLY Use

Finally, most dōTERRA oils can be taken internally as well. Did you know, that one drop of dōTERRA Peppermint oil is equivalent to drinking 28 cups of peppermint tea (the dried herb)? When you get a bottle of dōTERRA Peppermint oil, you know that there is nothing in that bottle besides Peppermint. No toxins or hidden ingrdeints. Personally, I start each day with a glass of grapefruit oil! It boost my metabolism, supports hormone balance, and naturally detoxes my body. Always check your label to make sure it lists internal as a usage. It’s important to note it is only safe to ingest pure oils from dōTERRA. I do not advocate ingesting any other brand.

  • Deep Blue Rub:

    It provides a comforting sensation of cooling and warmth to problem areas. I apply a small amount both before AND after working out reduce muscle discomfort later. It’s made with doTERRA’s Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus.

    • It is blended in a base of moisturizing emollients that leave your skin feeling soft and not greasy. It is the choice of massage therapists and sports practitioners who currently use doTERRA’s Deep Blue proprietary blend in their practices.
  • Peppermint Essential Oil

    This is one of my go-to oils! I love the cooling sensation it gives. I’m currently doing interval running, and lets just say I can get hot and sweaty. Before running, I rub 1-2 drops on the back of my neck and on my chest. It keeps me cool and feels AMAZING.

    • More than that, Peppermint opens my airways for clear breathing. Also, there are scientific studies about the impact Peppermint has on focus. I need to be focused when working out, so I love this! It helps me overcome the mind tricks that tell me “I just can’t run anymore, give up for today.” Instead, I say, “Challenge accpeted we’re running even futher now.”
  • Slim and Sassy Metabolic Blend:

    This blend helps manage hunger throughout the day while supporting healthy metabolism and promoting a positive mood. Yeah, it can help get my metabolism into a healthier state. This is huge! The blend is a mix of Grapefruit, Lemon, Peppermint, Ginger, and Cinnamon oil. I apply 3-6 drops in a carrier oil, like Fractionated Coconut Oil, and apply to problem areas like my abdomen and thighs.

    • Also, it actually helps detox the body! Who doesn’t want to reduce their toxic load while working out? I also love adding 1 drop to hot tea in the afternoon.
    • It helps reduce my temptation to grab a sugary snack or caffeine-filled drink. This helps keep my healthy eating goals in check. But the really cool thing?

Where Do I Start?

First, its essential that you know not all essential oils are created equally. Be sure to purchase responsibly. The market is not regulated strictly. Furthermore, labels can claim an oil is 100% pure, but it doesn’t guarantee that you’re getting the most pure, effective, and safe product.

Additionally, most brand-name oils cannot be taken internally. This typically, but not always, indicates that there may be hidden additives in that bottle. Please, only use dōTERRA’s certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils. We must do searching and find the facts for ourselves.
